The Building Department is responsible for the application and enforcement of the building code and related ordinances regulating construction, alterations and the use of buildings within the city. The Building Department is also responsible for administering the fire safety code.

Building Permits are required for many building projects, including new construction, additions, structural changes, decks, finished basements, pools, demolition, roofing, siding, and window replacement. Many projects require a plan review. Permit fees are paid at the time the permit is issued.

Electrical Permit

These permits must be filed by a licensed electrical contractor or by a homeowner performing electrical work on their own residence. Permit applications can be submitted online through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI).
