Code Violation Process
The City of St. Michael receives a report of a possible code violation.
City Staff inspects
the property. If no violation is found, the case is closed.
If a violation is found, a letter is sent to the property owner explaining the violation(s) and required corrective action(s). The property owner is given a date by which the violation(s) must be corrected for a second follow-up inspection.
If the violation is still present at the second inspection, a second letter is sent with a third re-inspection date.
If the violation is still present at the third inspection, a
final letter will be sent warning of possible legal action which may
include a citation if the property has not addressed violations by the final
inspection date.
If the violation is still present at the final inspection, the City may begin to issue Administrative Citation(s) or
the violation(s) may be forwarded to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office pending further action through the court system.
Certain public nuisance, health, and safety issues may require immediate action which could include abatement of the property, following city protocol. An independent contractor would be hired and the property owner invoiced from the city for all associated charges as well as administrative fees, taxes, and applicable late fees.
