Slavin began his career with the St. Michael Fire Department in October of 2006, and over the past 18 years, has become a true cornerstone of the St. Michael Fire Department (SMFD) department. From day one, he has demonstrated a calm and steady presence, even in the most intense and high-pressure situations. His ability to lead by example has earned him the trust and respect of everyone around him.

But this past year marks a significant milestone in Slavin's career. In 2024, he stepped into the role of Captain at Station 2 after an unexpected opening — a position that comes with immense responsibility and the need for strong, decisive leadership. Slavin didn’t just take on the role — he thrived in it. He embraced the challenge with remarkable confidence and purpose, setting the tone for the entire team.

Slavin was recognized at the 2025 I-94 First Responder's Luncheon for his dedication to SMFD and the field of firefighting. What stands out most is his commitment to the next generation of firefighters. Under his guidance, several new firefighters have found their footing, thanks to Slavin’s patience, expertise, and willingness to mentor and support them. His calm demeanor and steady leadership have provided a foundation for these new firefighters to succeed. His dedication extends beyond the day-to-day demands of the job. He has also served on the St. Michael Firefighters Relief Association, contributing to the well-being and support of his fellow firefighters. His commitment to the department and his peers has been unwavering.

Slavin's leadership as Captain has elevated the department and strengthened the team at Station 2. His ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and lead with integrity sets a standard for all of SMFD to follow.

The Department and community, thanked Slavin for his years of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to keeping St. Michael safe.
